Drawings
As my journey progressed I found myself adding sketches to my journal on those lonely nights…. scenes that I’d seen unfolding on the road, images I’d not been able to photograph.
From simple scribbled drawings these developed into rough comic strips which I worked up into A4 pencil layouts.
Then, using a light box, I traced them through onto 300gsm watercolour paper and added colour using my original travel painting set.
Here’s a few samples showing the development of the pages. The Udaipur/Octopussy page – one of the first I rendered up – was actually done with marker pens. I went back to the pencil and watercolour treatment though as I felt this had a more spontaneous “ Painted on the Road’ look.
